With this weekend's announcement that Junior Dos Santos will now defend the UFC Heavyweight Title against Frank Mir at UFC 146, it left former Champ Cain Velasquez without an opponent.<Br><Br>

But only for a day, as Dana White took this his Twitter account this afternoon to announce that Velasquez does indeed have an opponent, and a big one at that:<Br><Br>

"Don't believe any of the BS you read on the internet. Cain is fighting Bigfoot Silva May 26th in Vegas."<Br><Br>

On the most recent edition of “UFC Tonight,” former UFC No. 1 contender Kenny Florian broke down the most recent title-fight between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. Jones used his height advantage to keep “Suga” at bay, delivering a few sharply-thrown elbows that eventually swelled up the right eye of Evans. [...]

OvereemAlistair_180_34.jpg
The UFC made the right call in pulling Alistair Overeem from UFC 146. The Nevada State Athletic Commission denied him a license on Tuesday following a lengthy hearing, which went forward after the commission denied Overeem's request for a continuance.

The crux of Overeem's case was that his doctor, a Hector Molina out of Texas, prescribed him an injectable cocktail in January to deal with several injuries sustained over the last year, and that he took two injections without knowing that there was testosterone included in the mixture.

However, the credibility of Molina was very much in question, as his testimony during the hearing was a jumbled mess of misremembering, contradicting statements, and a general lack of clarity. Additionally, there was an issue regarding the date of the test, as Overeem initially got in a vehicle and left after the UFC 146 press conference despite his camp being told he needed to remain there to be tested. He was tracked down by the UFC finally and administered his test.

He claimed he was leaving the press conference to avoid being served legal documents by Golden Glory representatives, though that story is in dispute as well, as the time stamp for the papers served that day may be prior to his claim.

Despite an admission that he injected this substance that did contain testosterone, the Commission ultimately opted not to make him wait the entire year before being able to reapply after denying his license application. Instead, they backdated the date of the application to the date of his failed drug test, March 27, and will allow him to apply for a license again after only nine months from that date.

Penick's Analysis: The commission failed to send the correct message by shortening the time period for Overeem. There was no evidence presented that exonerates him from taking a banned substance, and the testimony of his "doctor" was ridiculous at best. Molina has a lot of shadiness behind him, from a domestic assault arrest, to botched medical procedures, illegally prescribing medications, and more, and yet they essentially gave Overeem a slap on the wrist. He's been removed from the UFC 146 event, yes, but this nine-month backdating to March technically means he could fight by the UFC's year-end event, though the license application couldn't be approved until a day or two before he would fight. Overeem's story is a complete farce, and the commission failed to call him out on it on Tuesday to the extent they could have. Still, Overeem will not be able to fight for almost the entirety of 2012, and the UFC will not be happy with him over the entire situation.

LAS VEGAS - Alistair Overeem will be on the shelf until at least Dec. 27.

After a lengthy Tuesday hearing in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Overeem was denied a license to fight in Nevada and must now wait nine months before reapplying with the commission.

The ruling was a bit of a concession from the NSAC, which has the right to enforce a one-year waiting period in such circumstances.

Despite what was arguably Bellator's biggest fight and biggest show of its sixth season, this past weekend's Bellator 66 event saw a ratings plunge.

The April 20 broadcast averaged just 109,000 MTV2 viewers, MMAjunkie.com today confirmed with industry sources. That's down 33 percent from the 163,000 viewers who tuned in for Bellator 65 a week prior.

It's also the third-worst figure in Bellator and MTV2's 32-event history.

Frank Mir of course knew that he could, and most likely would, replace Alistair Overeem in a title bout against champ Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146.

But until it was official, he could only imagine.

"When you're sitting there thinking late at night, there's thousands of different scenarios that play out," Mir today told MMAjunkie.com.

UFC President Dana White made the executive decision late last week that Frank Mir would replace Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 146 after Overeem failed a drug test administered by the NSAC and talked about the ins and outs of the PPV business somewhat forcing his hand:<br><Br>

"I've got my marketing people terrorizing me," White told MMAjunkie.com. "It just gets to the point where you've got to run your business. I tried to wait.<br><Br>

"Anybody who knows anything abut the pay-per-view business, we're already past the deadline. We've got to run with it, and I'm not feeling too optimistic… There's so much more that goes into this that you guys don't know. If we don't get into the loop on pay-per-view, you don't get in a lot of the systems. There's just so many things that we have to do to run the business."<br><Br>

"It was either Mir or Werdum, and Werdum is going to fight down in Brazil on the Brazil card, I believe. Mir was already training. Mir was already on the card, and Mir makes a lot of sense."<br><Br>

(Thigh sleeve > Muttonchops? I don't understand this world anymore.)  By Jack Saladino After a six week hiatus that threatened to drive UFC fans worldwide into their nearest mental asylum, UFC 145 came back with a fury, providing us with all the sweet KO's, slick submissions, and classic scraps that we have come to know and love. And now that the storm has passed, we must look to the future for those involved in what was a fantastic night of fights. As always, we'll take a look at the must-make match-ups for Saturday's biggest winners, and maybe even a couple of the losers, because they're people too, we guess. Let's get right to it... Travis Browne- If not for Chad Griggs' incredible chin, "Hapa" could have just as easily walked away with a Knockout of the Night bonus for that beautiful double flying knee. That being said, Browne was awarded Submission of the Night for only his second career submission victory, and looked like a Jiu-Jitsu whiz while doing so. Browne has steamrolled through most of his opponents, and if the heavyweight division wasn’t so tongue tied at the moment, I would have a long list of potential opponents for the Hawaiian. But Browne has age on his side and would fight tomorrow if you asked him to, so I’m thinking he should step up and fill the vacancy "Bigfoot" Silva left against Roy Nelson. Browne has a month to keep fit and a win over a name like "Big Country" on relatively short notice would ensure his top tier status.

Though the trash talk and training camps for Anderson Silva's title bout with Chael Sonnen are underway, the date of their fight is in question. A United Nations convention set for the same time as UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro may force the UFC to move from the June 23 date.

UFC president Dana White talked about it after UFC on Fuel 2 on Saturday.

"The problem is, they don't like the idea of us coming the same time this United Nations convention is going on," he said. "The other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up. And we don't think, we know that the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight is one of the biggest sporting events this year, in the world."

A lack of hotel rooms in a city the size of Rio is an ongoing problem. They are building hotels to deal with the upcoming Olympics in 2016 and the World Cup in 2014, but that won't help the UFC this June.

Since the UFC generally plans their events well after conventions of all stripes are set, it's surprising that this snafu would just come up now. Rio+20 has been planned since January 2011. Checking what's going on in a town before booking an event is event-planning 101. That doesn't matter if you're planning a birthday party or a major sporting event.

This isn't the first scheduling problem the UFC has faced this year. In January, they were forced to postpone a planned March event in Montreal because they didn't feel the bouts were good enough for an event of that size. The postponement was the reason for the recently-ended six-week Zuffa drought.

Nick Diaz was a no-show at the UFC 137 press conference in Las Vegas - just like he was a no-show at the press conference in Toronto the day before. Dana White decided enough is enough and axed him from the card, giving Carlos Condit the title shot in his place. In this interview with MMA:30's Dave Farra; Dana White talks about the trust lost, why he thinks he'll never heard from Diaz again, and touches on Overreem vs. Lesnar and the UFC's return to Japan.
